Phyllis Cassel
President

Phyllis CasselPhyllis first became interested in fair housing and housing supply issues in the 1960s, and helped establish the West Suburban Fair Housing Center (now HOPE Fair Housing) in DuPage County, Illinois in the 1970s. Now retired, Phyllis previously was a charge nurse for the Stanford Blood Center and a team-leader/charge nurse in acute care medicine at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto. Phyllis also worked at the Santa Clara County Housing Authority as a housing specialist with the Section 8, Mod Rehab and Voucher programs; and has served as commissioner on the Planning and Transportation Commission for the City of Palo Alto. She believes that a safe and healthy housing unit is a most basic human need for a healthy life, and was delighted when asked to serve on the Board of Stevenson House, where not only is senior housing available, but also weekday meals and a community of caring people. Phyllis is currently president of the League of Women Voters Palo Alto and an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, with a bachelor’s degree in Community Development; and from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, Diploma Program.
