Alfred is a licensed general contractor who has worked in architecture and construction for almost 40 years. His specialty has been the renovation and remodeling of houses, though he has also worked on a number of historic preservation projects, churches and university buildings. As a principal of Alfred Bay, Inc., a design-build firm specializing in renovations requiring structural remediation while working around the convenience and safety of residents in place, Alfred founded elderfriendlyrenovation.com which provides expertise and home modifications enabling seniors and the disabled to live productively in their own homes. Alfred grew up in Palo Alto before moving on to Friends World College (NYC, Kyoto, Guatemala City) where he received a bachelor of arts degree in International Studies. He also holds a master of Architecture Degree from the University of California Berkeley where he studied under and, subsequently worked with Christopher Alexander and Hajo Neiss at the Center for Environmental Structure. Alfred is a member of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), and a member of EDRA (Environmental Design Research Association).
