History of Stevenson House
- Stevenson House was built in 1967 and opened its doors February 15, 1968. Built under the sponsorship of Palo Alto Senior Housing Project, Inc., Stevenson House has received ongoing support from the Palo Alto Unitarian Universalist Church and also throughout the community.
- The church sold the corporation 2.2 acres for the bargain price of $25,774, then donated back $5,000 to help with construction of the buildings. Another 0.9 acre was purchased at market rate.
- The three buildings - A, B, and C - sit on 3.1 acres of land at 455 E. Charleston Road in south Palo Alto, next to Hoover Elementary School.
- A 3% subsidized mortgage from HUD (U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development), HUD tenant subsidies under the Section 8 program, and broad community support have maintained Stevenson House as an ongoing affordable housing community.
The Basics
