There is a warmth here that is difficult to find in many other senior housing complexes. A warmth of friendship and companionship, of concern and respect for one another. There is a richness here of age, certainly, but also of experience, of knowledge and wisdom, of culture and race and nationality. A richness of belonging, of having come home.
In many ways, Stevenson House is a kaleidoscope. You look at us, and you are pleasantly surprised by our deep sense of community. You look again, and you hear the lively conversations and the laughter in the halls. Another turn of the kaleidoscope and you sense the aroma wafting in from our kitchen just prior to our enjoying an evening meal together.

Stevenson House is home for about 130 older adults who live in one of our three low-rise buildings in either a studio or one bedroom apartment. All apartments have a full kitchen and bath.
Our mission is to provide affordable housing where independent, low-income older adults enjoy a safe and caring community.
For over 40 years, the nonprofit Palo Alto Senior Housing Project has maintained Stevenson House as a safe, affordable, friendly community for older adults. Some of our units have Section 8 subsidies, while the remaining units are rented at below-market rates to further our mission of providing an economically viable housing option for low-income seniors who wish to live in Palo Alto.
Our core programs and services are designed to help our seniors remain independent and active as they age with dignity. These programs and services include: specially prepared and presented nutritional dinners, in a family setting, five days each week; a hot lunch program; discussion groups; exercise and health education classes; Friday night flicks; a Men’s Club; gardening activities; parties, barbecues, music, singing and much more!
All of our programs and services are designed to promote a safe, caring, intellectually stimulating environment that fosters self-esteem, independence and a strong sense of well-being among our residents.
